LDPE Shrink Film Resin Must Match the Shrinking Process
LDPE shrink film is selected for more than easy extrusion. The resin and blend must provide the required bubble stability, orientation, shrink response, seal behavior and mechanical strength for the finished pack. A material that works for a general liner or bag may not provide the required machine-direction and transverse-direction shrink balance.
Jiuting Polymers is a China-based polymer supply and export coordination company in Dalian. We screen available China-origin materials against the buyer’s current grade, TDS, film structure and shrink-pack requirements. We do not claim that two LDPE grades are interchangeable based only on melt flow and density.
Typical Shrink Film Applications
- Beverage and bottled-water multipacks
- Canned-food and household-product bundles
- Carton overwrap and tray shrink film
- Industrial product and building-material packaging
- Pallet shrink hoods and heavy-duty covers
Single-Layer or Coextruded Structure?
Please state whether the film is produced on a monolayer or multilayer blown-film line. For a coextruded structure, identify the layer function, approximate layer ratio and any LDPE, LLDPE, mLLDPE or other PE blend. The same LDPE may perform differently when the blend ratio, die geometry, output or cooling conditions change.
Key Properties to Review
MFI, Melt Strength and Bubble Stability
MFI or MFR must include the test condition. Melt strength, drawdown and bubble stability are especially important when the line operates at high output or produces a wide film with controlled thickness.
MD and TD Shrink
Provide the required machine-direction and transverse-direction shrink percentages, the test temperature and the test time. The starting shrink temperature and useful shrink window are often more informative than one shrink value measured under an unknown condition.
Mechanical Performance
Specify tensile strength, elongation, tear, puncture and load-retention requirements where applicable. Heavy bundles and pallet hoods need a different balance of shrink force and toughness from a light retail multipack.
Optics and Surface
State the required clarity, haze and gloss. Confirm whether the film is printed, corona treated or used with labels. Surface treatment and additive selection can affect printing, blocking and winding.
Sealing and Additives
Provide the sealing temperature range, packaging-line speed and any hot-tack requirement. Confirm whether slip, antiblock, processing aid, UV stabilization or other additives are already included in the resin or added separately through masterbatch.
Information Needed for Grade Matching
- Current producer and complete LDPE grade, or current TDS
- Film application and finished-pack weight
- Monolayer or coextruded structure and layer ratio
- Film thickness, width, blow-up ratio and line output
- LDPE/LLDPE or other blend composition
- MD/TD shrink target, test temperature and shrink window
- Tensile, tear, puncture, optics and sealing requirements
- Additive, printing, food-contact and destination-market requirements
- Monthly quantity, destination port and preferred trade term
How the Sourcing Review Works
- We review the current resin, blend and finished-film targets.
- We identify which process and performance properties are mandatory.
- We check relevant China-origin producer and grade options available at inquiry time.
- We coordinate available TDS, COA and MSDS records for the selected material.
- The buyer conducts its own film trial and shrink-pack qualification before commercial approval.
Standard packing is 25 kg bags or agreed packing. Export coordination is normally arranged in 20-foot full containers from Dalian Port under FOB, CFR or CIF terms. Final availability, loading quantity and documents are confirmed for the exact material.
